屋久島は九州・鹿児島県の南に浮かぶ島。ほぼ全域が花崗岩からなる山地であり、1,000mから1,900m級の山々の連なりは八重岳、洋上アルプスなどと呼ばれる。

中央部には日本百名山の一つで九州地方最高峰の宮之浦岳 (1,936m) がそびえる。１年に３６５日雨が降るといわれるほど多雨で、その植生は深く見事。

白川雲水郷には「もののけ姫」のモチーフとなったと言われる深い森がある。鹿・猿ばかりでなく、海には海亀や亜熱帯の魚がおり、温泉も湧き、ユネスコ自然世界遺産

に登録されるほどの深い自然を誇る。

one of Japan 100 famous mountains . Even called 365 days rainy in a year, the vegetation is deeply impressive. The Shirakawa-unsuikyyo, there is a deep forest that is said to have become a motif of " Princess Mononoke " . The deer , monkeys as well , in the sea sea turtles and subtropical fishes,

also springing hot spring. Yakushima isUNESCO natural World Heritage Site and has the deep nature.
